Business Breakfast – Learning, Connection & Growth | VIHNS

In April 2026, the Vancouver Island Hispanic Network Society (VIHNS) will host the Business Breakfast, a dynamic and inspiring event designed to connect members of the Hispanic community with experienced entrepreneurs who have successfully built their businesses in Victoria.

This engaging gathering offers a unique opportunity to learn directly from real-world experiences through a panel conversation featuring three accomplished Hispanic entrepreneurs. They will share their personal journeys, challenges, and insights into navigating and thriving within the Canadian business environment.

More than just a panel, the Business Breakfast creates a welcoming and collaborative space where attendees can enjoy a delicious breakfast while building meaningful connections with professionals, entrepreneurs, and community leaders.

Throughout the morning, participants will experience:

  • A live panel discussion featuring established Hispanic business leaders sharing practical insights and lessons learned
  • Opportunities to gain valuable strategies for business growth and development within the local market
  • A supportive environment to connect with like-minded professionals and expand your network
  • Direct interaction with panelists through questions and conversation
    A vibrant networking session to foster collaborations and new opportunities

The event will feature:

Spanish-Language Networking Event – Connection & Community | VIHNS

On April 1st, 2026, the Vancouver Island Hispanic Network Society (VIHNS) will host a Spanish-Language Networking Event, a dynamic and engaging gathering designed to bring people together, exchange ideas, and create meaningful opportunities within the Hispanic community of Vancouver Island.

This unique event invites participants to connect in a fun and interactive environment through a speed networking format, allowing attendees to meet multiple people in a short period of time while fostering genuine conversations and new connections.

Open to everyone, this event also welcomes those who are not native Spanish speakers but are interested in practicing the language in a supportive and inclusive setting. It is a space where cultures come together, experiences are shared, and community is strengthened.

Throughout the evening, attendees will enjoy:

III Hispanic Women’s Forum – Tools for Self-Care and Empowerment | VIHNS

On March 2026, Charlas Entre Mujeres and the Vancouver Island Hispanic Network Society hosted the III Hispanic Women’s Forum in Victoria, BC, bringing together Hispanic women from across the region for a morning of connection, reflection, and personal growth.

Under the theme Transforming the Woman I Am: Taking Care of Myself, the forum created a warm and supportive space where participants could reconnect with themselves and focus on their well-being in a meaningful way.

Throughout the morning, attendees participated in a dynamic circuit of rotating mini-workshops, each designed to explore key areas of personal development. In small group settings, women engaged in interactive sessions focused on emotional well-being, physical health, spirituality and purpose, personal finances, and social life and communication.

Each station combined reflection with practical tools, allowing participants not only to learn but to take away strategies they can apply in their everyday lives.

In addition to the workshops, the event also offered opportunities to:

  • Enjoy a coffee and networking space in a relaxed environment
  • Discover local vendors and women-led businesses
  • Participate in raffles and special activities
  • Experience moments of meditation and self-care

The forum provided a meaningful opportunity for attendees to:

  • Reconnect with themselves and their personal goals

  • Celebrate growth, empowerment, and collective strength

With a spirit of connection and empowerment, the III Hispanic Women’s Forum created a safe and inspiring space for women to grow together and strengthen their network on Vancouver Island.

Hispanic Business Expo 2026 – Celebrating Entrepreneurship & Community | VIHNS

On Saturday, March 28th, 2026, the Vancouver Island Hispanic Network Society (VIHNS) will host the Hispanic Business Expo 2026, a vibrant and inclusive event dedicated to showcasing and supporting Hispanic-owned businesses across Vancouver Island.

This community gathering invites visitors of all backgrounds to discover the diversity, creativity, and innovation of Hispanic entrepreneurs who contribute to the local economy. The Expo will feature a dynamic exhibition with a wide range of products, services, and initiatives spanning industries such as food, desserts, art, handmade goods, professional services, wellness, and more.

Connection Corner: A Hispanic Seniors Circle – Building Community & Belonging | VIHNS

On January 31st, February 14th, February 28th, and March 14th, the Vancouver Island Counselling Centre for Immigrants and Refugees, in partnership with the Vancouver Island Hispanic Network Society (VIHNS), will host Connection Corner: A Hispanic Seniors Circle, a welcoming space created especially for Spanish-speaking seniors.

Building on the success of the Crafting and Connecting program, this series offers a safe, supportive, and friendly environment where participants can share their stories of resilience, connect with others, and build meaningful friendships while navigating life in Canada.

Throughout the sessions, participants will enjoy a warm and engaging experience featuring:

  • Opportunities to connect with fellow seniors in a culturally familiar and inclusive space.
  • Meaningful conversations that celebrate life experiences, resilience, and community.
  • A supportive environment designed to reduce isolation and foster a sense of belonging.
  • Bilingual interaction in both English and Spanish to ensure accessibility and comfort.

Family members and caregivers are also welcome to register on behalf of a loved one, helping ensure that more seniors can benefit from this enriching experience.

More than just a gathering, Connection Corner is a space for connection, understanding, and community-building—where every story matters and every participant is valued.

With its focus on inclusion, cultural connection, and well-being, this initiative reflects the ongoing commitment of VIHNS and its partners to support and uplift Hispanic seniors across Vancouver Island.

2025 Past Events 

Día de Muertos Altar Contest 2025 – Keeping Tradition Alive | VIHNS

On November 1st, 2025, the Vancouver Island Hispanic Network Society (VIHNS) hosted the Día de Muertos Altar Contest at Sea Cider Farm & Ciderhouse in Saanichton, a heartfelt celebration honoring the rich Mexican tradition of remembering loved ones who have passed away.

This cultural gathering brought together families, friends, and local businesses to showcase their creativity and heritage through beautiful “Ofrendas” (Altars de Muertos) — each filled with color, symbolism, and love.

Throughout the afternoon, guests enjoyed a memorable experience featuring:

  • Ten unique community altars, beautifully decorated with cempasúchil (marigold flowers), candles, sugar skulls, photos, and favorite foods of loved ones.
  • Live performances by Fiesta Latina Ballet Folklórico of Victoria and Mariachi Sin Frontera, filling the venue with music and emotion.
  • Delicious cider from Sea Cider Farm & Ciderhouse, along with the warmth of community connection.
  • A public vote selected the winning altar, which received a special prize in recognition of its creativity and cultural expression.

With vibrant colors, heartfelt stories, and shared memories, the Día de Muertos Altar Contest reminded everyone of the importance of honoring our ancestors, celebrating life, and preserving cultural traditions within Vancouver Island’s diverse community.

The VIHNS extends sincere thanks to all participants, performers, and partners for making this meaningful celebration a success and for helping to keep the Day of the Dead tradition alive.

Business Breakfast – Strategies for Business Growth in Canada

On September 27th, 2025, the Vancouver Island Hispanic Network Society (VIHNS) hosted a Business Breakfast at La Taquisa in Victoria, bringing together entrepreneurs, professionals, and community members eager to explore new strategies for business growth in Canada.

From 8:00 to 10:00 am, attendees enjoyed a delicious breakfast while engaging in insightful discussions on how to finance or acquire a business in Canada.

The event featured special guest Ramón Ramírez, Partner at Chinook Business Advisory, who shared valuable insights and practical strategies to help participants navigate opportunities within the Canadian business landscape.

The morning provided an excellent opportunity for attendees to:

  • Learn about financing and acquisition strategies

  • Connect with like-minded professionals from the Hispanic community

  • Exchange ideas and experiences to foster growth and collaboration

  • Build lasting relationships within Victoria’s vibrant entrepreneurial network

Online Networking Event - Summer 2025 (In Spanish)

On August 27th, 2025, the Vancouver Island Hispanic Network Society (VIHNS) hosted a Free Online Networking Event in Spanish, bringing together professionals, entrepreneurs, and community members for an evening of connection, collaboration, and opportunity.

From 7:00 to 9:00 pm on Zoom, participants engaged in dynamic conversations, exchanged ideas, and built valuable relationships, all in an inclusive, Spanish-speaking environment that celebrated the richness of the Hispanic community on Vancouver Island.

The event provided a welcoming space for attendees to:

  • Expand their professional and personal networks
  • Discover new opportunities for collaboration and growth
  • Share knowledge, experiences, and resources
  • Strengthen bonds within the vibrant Hispanic community

With inspiring exchanges and a spirit of support, the Online Networking Event highlighted the importance of coming together to learn, connect, and create a brighter future.

Hispanic Picnic

On June 29th, 2025, the Vancouver Island Hispanic Network Society (VIHNS) hosted the Hispanic Picnic at Beckwith Park, a vibrant celebration of Latin American culture, community, and connection.

This family-friendly outdoor event brought together hundreds of community members for a joyful afternoon filled with:

  • Delicious Mexican and Colombian cuisine from @thenewmexicanvillage and @macondocolombiancuisine
  • Sweet treats and gelato provided by @limenacuisine
  • Sports and recreational activities including soccer, volleyball, and games for all ages
  • A captivating magic show and traditional dance performance by @danza_colombia_victoria
  • An energetic music set by @pachangalatina2022 that kept the festive spirit alive throughout the day

With blankets on the grass, laughter in the air, and a strong sense of togetherness, Hispanic Picnic reminded us of the power of community and culture in shaping a vibrant, inclusive Vancouver Island.

We thank all participants, volunteers, performers, and food vendors for making this day a resounding success.

Business Registration and Tax Strategies for Hispanic Entrepreneurs in Canada (In Spanish) | VIHNS

On May 24th, 2025, we hosted the first Hispanic Business Breakfast of the year, an engaging and inspiring morning dedicated to connection, learning, and empowerment within our community.

Held in a warm and welcoming atmosphere, the event brought together business owners, entrepreneurs, and service providers from across the region. Participants shared experiences, exchanged ideas, and expanded their professional networks, fostering collaboration among Hispanic professionals.

A highlight of the morning was a presentation delivered in Spanish by LAinsightconsulting, offering valuable guidance on how to start a business in British Columbia and navigate corporate taxes for small enterprises. This informative session provided practical strategies and essential insights for new and aspiring entrepreneurs.

The agenda also included time for open discussion and networking, reinforcing our commitment to ongoing professional growth and mutual support within the Hispanic business community.

Events like this continue to be a cornerstone of our mission, building connections, strengthening knowledge, and creating opportunities for a thriving and inclusive future.

Registration for Hispanic Community Members to Join the 125th Victoria Day Parade

On May 19th, 2025, members of the Vancouver Island Hispanic community will proudly participate in the 125th Thrifty Foods Victoria Day Parade, presented by CHEK TV. This annual event, beginning at 9:00 AM along Douglas Street in downtown Victoria, provides a meaningful opportunity to celebrate and share our rich cultural heritage with the broader community.

During this vibrant celebration, we will:

– Showcase the diversity of Latin American cultures through traditional dress, music, and joyful participation
– Unite community members across generations in a public display of heritage and pride
– Highlight the growing presence and contributions of the Hispanic community on Vancouver Island

We welcome all members of our community to take part free of charge. Participants are encouraged to wear traditional clothing or the colors of their national flags. No prior experience is necessary—just enthusiasm and a festive spirit. (Strollers for young children are welcome; however, pets are not permitted.)

Those already registered through a community leader should continue coordinating directly with them. Others can register independently by Wednesday, May 14 at 11:59 PM, and will be connected with a group.

This is a valuable chance to come together in a spirit of unity, joy, and cultural pride. Spots are limited, so we encourage early registration.

Annual General Meeting 2025

On April 25th,2025, we held the 2nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Vancouver Island Hispanic Network Society (VIHNS). This meaningful gathering brought together members, partners, and supporters of our growing community at the Langford Business Center.

During this important session, we:

Approved key updates to the Bylaws that strengthen our governance structure
Successfully elected 10 new members to our Board of Directors
-Celebrated the continued commitment of our community to shaping a more inclusive and empowered Hispanic presence on Vancouver Island.
-We were also honoured to host Juan Salvador Navarro Estrada, President of CMX Partnerships, as our keynote speaker. His insightful talk on “Canada and Latin America: Opportunities and Challenges in a Globalized World” offered a global perspective and inspiration for our work ahead.

Networking Event - Spring 2025

On Thursday, March 20th, from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, the Langford Business Centre came alive with the energy of our Hispanic community on Vancouver Island during a one-of-a-kind networking event conducted entirely in Spanish.

Using a dynamic and engaging speed dating methodology, participants had the opportunity to:

-Make Key Connections – Dozens of Hispanic professionals and entrepreneurs came together to expand their networks, opening the door to new opportunities and meaningful collaborations.

Exchange Ideas – Attendees shared projects, knowledge, and experiences, while discovering fresh perspectives and strengthening their presence within the community.

Explore Growth Opportunities – Many walked away with promising leads and potential partnerships to boost both their personal and professional journeys.

Online Webinar: Undestanding the Seasonal Affection Disorder and how to tackle it

Seasonal depression (Seasonal Affective Disorder or SAD) affects many people during the winter months in Vancouver Island due to a lack of natural light and other environmental factors. This webinar aims to provide valuable information and practical strategies to understand and manage this challenge, helping you improve your emotional well-being and quality of life during this time of year.

Pilar: Learning

Facilitator: Dennis Del Rio Carbo

Dennis is a psychologist with an extensive professional and academic career:

Training: Psychology from the Mexican University of Distance Education (UMED). Specialties in Person-Centered Approach and Gestalt Psychotherapy from the Gestalt Institute-Humanist University.
Diplomas: Psychoanalysis, narrative and poetry at the Autonomous University of the State of Morelos (UAEM).
Professional experience: He has been a psychologist and professor at the Anglo-Mexican University Center (CUAM) and has worked in community psychological care with the UAEM. He participated as a group psychotherapist in addiction rehabilitation clinics and has worked in private practice since 2004.
Current: He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology at Yorkville University, works in private practice in Victoria, BC, and is a volunteer at the Vancouver Island Counseling Center for Immigrants and Refugees (VICCIR).

Fiesta Decembrina 2024

Description:

We wrapped up the year with joy and cultural pride at our Hispanic Holiday Celebration. This festive event brought together the entire community for an evening filled with cultural performances, traditional music, and delectable Hispanic cuisine. Together, we celebrated the holiday season, forged meaningful connections, and reflected on the shared experiences that define our diverse community. It was truly a memorable night of unity, joy, and festive cheer.

Networking Event for Hispanics | Fall

Day of the dead Celebration, 2024

The Vancouver Island Hispanic Network, in collaboration with SEA Cider, hosted a celebration of Día de los Muertos on November 2, 2024, bringing the Mexican tradition of honoring departed loved ones to the wider Vancouver Island community. Set against the backdrop of SEA Cider’s orchard, this cultural event provided an immersive experience, showcasing the symbolism, history, and significance of Día de los Muertos.

Visitors explored beautifully adorned altars, each filled with photos, candles, and traditional marigold flowers, and learned about the rich meanings behind these ofrendas. The event featured live music, traditional dance performances, and a variety of Mexican dishes, including the iconic pan de muerto, paired with SEA Cider’s crafted ciders. Families and individuals alike enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere, filled with the warmth of shared stories and memories, while connecting across cultures.

This gathering served as a bridge between communities, allowing Vancouver Island residents to partake in one of Mexico’s most revered traditions, fostering understanding, remembrance, and unity.
